Guided Walks
Discovering more about the amazing world around us
Are you interested in discovering more about the fynbos vegetation that makes this part of the world so special? Or perhaps you would like to visit our Rock Art and Heritage Site with a guide who can tell you more about the paintings you are seeing. We offer 2-hour introductory walks, as well as longer specialist botanical walks. All our walks are personalised and tailored to suit your needs.
Guided walks are subject to availability, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance to make your booking and avoid disappointment.
Introductory Walks
1.5-2.5 hours, 3-4km
- Introduction to Fynbos and the Rock Art of Phillipskop
Our most popular guided walk incorporates an introduction to the Cape Flora as you walk to Candlewood Valley and visit our heritage site, Phillipskop Cave. - Fantastic Fynbos for Families
Similar to the above walk, but shorter as it does not include the cave and geared for families with children. - Discovery Trails
Personally tailored guided walk along other routes within the reserve. As well as the amazing flora, we have a chance to see some of the special animals and birds that occur here, such as Klipspringer, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Rockjumper and Black Eagle.
Rate: R500 per person (children under five free). Minimum cost per walk: R1,000.
Specialist Botanical Walks
3-4 hours, 4-6km
For those with a bit more time, and who would like a more personalised discovery about the unique flora of this part of the world, specialist botanical walks are available.
- Your guide, Dr Chris Whitehouse, is a world expert on the plants of South Africa and also has extensive knowledge of the natural history of the area.
- Learn about the plants, their names, uses and interactions with animals
- Whether you are starting with no knowledge about plants or are already a keen botanist you will be able to learn more at your own level.
Rate: R2,000 for 2 people. Reduced rates for groups of 3 or more.

F.A.B. Trails
1-2 hours, 2-3km
For resident guests at Phillipskop, we have self-guided Family Activity Bible Trails. But we can also do these as guided walks for a small cost. You can find out more about these here.
Rate: R150 per person (children under five free). Minimum cost per walk: R600
